Camera Cell Phones

The hottest new item for Christmas will be the networked camera cell phone.  Photographers can send photos to a single, central storage place as they are taken.  No more handling of film, smart cards or other intermediary media!  Cameras are smaller and cheaper because storage is external to the camera.

Problems surrounding image back up, sorting, and after-the-fact annotation are reduced.  Since a person can archive photos in one cyber spot (which can be automatically mirrored for backup) the process of copying collected photos from one device to another eliminates the potential loss of the image that can occur when transmission goes awry.   Networked cameras allow the possibility to annotate photos as they are created—or soon afterwards when the information is still fresh.  Important photos can be tagged, bookmarked, and keywords can be entered immediately, automatically noting location and time and providing for immediate publishing or storing.  Thus, they can be made available to a desired audience as they are taken.  The bad news?  We'll all lose some privacy and photos can be transmitted to audiences without permission from the authorities. ... the latter, not so bad.
