Membership to The Write Landscape
Who can apply? The Write Landscape members are published authors. It is expected that the authors can list and verify publications and that they are members of some type of professional writing association (examples). What do members get?Membership includes:
Authors look the page(s) over, give opinions, suggestions, links, and final approval. PI functions like an editor: consistent look and feel, style and update changes are implemented when PI feels it is appropriate to do so. Clients are obliged not to take the work developed by PI to present it as their own or to give it away to another web publisher. A lot of unpaid hours go into developing even one webpage and this is PI's way of protecting its work. How much does it cost?$100 is the startup Write Landscape membership fee. While there is not a yearly membership fee, PI reserves the right to charge one. The Write Landscape has existed since 1995, starting as AB - the Write Landscape. The site has been moved and has settled into PI-Flora.com, the community service web centre, developed by PI to provide Southern Alberta community information. It is expected that the site will exist for my and/or the author's lifetime. Can PI guarantee it? No. My ISP provides webhosting. Can I put the work on my own server?Authors who want to own or purchase the work can do so. The page(s) would be uploaded to a server of your choice, you purchase copyright to the content, graphics, and coding of the page. Actual cost depends on time: $45 per hour, including consultation time. In general, this would cost a minimum of $250 (approx. 5.5 hours). (More information is available by following this PI Costs link.) It is expected that a credit and link to PI would be made and that all reasonable effort to keep the PI credit link updated would be made by the purchaser, unless PI has requested removal. How can I apply for membership? The following form is presented so that published writers can submit an application to The Write Landscape. Use the comment section to include websites that already exist. PI creates a work order for the author to sign. This order indicates that you want PI to create, develop, and install the web(page/site) on a specified server. If the specified server is PI-Flora.com, the work order will state that the service is The Write Landscape membership. Since the author pages are on a PI site, it is expected to fit into PI's Write Landscape marketing plan which is aimed to benefit and market all of its author members and would include entry in other PI marketing such as CD/ROM development. The author gets more for their money; the trade-off is PI owns the code, graphics, and content. PI-Flora.com is a community service web centre for Professional Informatics (PI). Webhosting on PI-Flora.com (presence on the Internet) is paid by PI. PI owns copyright, controls content and handles marketing. Copying of webpages is strictly prohibited. Linking to the homepage is expected and encouraged, but mirroring or copying is not allowed without permission from PI.
